Harvest is underway in the Wollersheim vineyards! Across the vineyard, ripe grapes are coming off the vines and making their way to the winery—the culmination of a growing season spent tending, watching and waiting. It’s one of the busiest times of the year at Wollersheim, and one of the most exciting.
As the harvester moves down each row, the vines pass through the center of the machine, where flexible rods gently shake the vines and jostle the ripe grapes free. The grapes are then collected and carried along with the harvester, ready for their next stop at the winery. It’s a fascinating bit of machinery—and an important part of harvest here at Wollersheim. We do pick some grapes by hand, like ice wine grapes and vines where the hill grade is too steep, but the harvester is an amazing time saver and is very efficient at gently gathering grapes.
