Wollersheim Mini Prairie Fumé - Unbreakable Good Taste.

News Releases

Wollersheim Prairie Fumé Named “Best of…” (Apr 2007)

Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin - Wollersheim Winery is celebrating its 35th anniversary in 2007 and the wine year is off to a great start! The Prairie Fumé wine has already earned some very prestigious awards, from California no less. The New World Wine Competition held in Ontario, California last month had over 2,000 entries from the Americas, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa and there were only 249 awards given for the categories of gold medal, best of class, or best of varietal. Prairie Fumé took all three awards! In addition, Prairie Blush, Dry Riesling and White Riesling wines all received a Silver Medal at the competition.

The New World International Wine Competition has been identified repeatedly as one of the top ten wine competitions in the United States. “Our judging confirms that consumers don’t have to spend a fortune to enjoy great wine”, said Jody Tillery-Gmeiner, competition co-producer. “All of the top winners are priced under $30.00. This competition was created to serve the interests of wine consumers world wide, and I feel we have accomplished that goal.”

Wollersheim Winery also had two other prestigious wine awards last month. The “Best of the East” Competition evaluates wines, which are produced East of the Rockies and the competition takes place in Watkins Glen, New York. The Prairie Fumé again took home high honors with a “Best White Hybrid” award. Receiving the “Best Blush/Rosé” award was the estate-grown Prairie Blush wine. A complete list of wine awards is available at www.wollersheim.com/awards.asp.

Wollersheim Winery produces a variety of wines, from dry to sweet. Semi-dry Prairie Fumé is the most popular, fitting right in the middle in terms of sweetness, but its well-balanced flavors make it the favorite of many. Prairie Blush is a vibrant colored blush grown from Foch grapes at the winery vineyards and is the perfect picnic wine. The winery produces an additional fourteen wines. Wollersheim Winery is located just outside of Prairie du Sac and is open daily for winery tours and tastings. For more information, contact www.wollersheim.com.
