Before the Old Fashioned became the drink we know and love in Wisconsin, it started with three simple ingredients: spirit, sugar, and bitters. Our version of the Pre-Prohibition Old Fashioned features our delicate and floral Coquard Brandy with a rich cinnamon simple syrup and two varieties of bitters.

Coquard Brandy Pre-Prohibition Old Fashioned

  • 2 oz Coquard Brandy
  • ¼ oz Cinnamon syrup*
  • 2 dashes Bittercube Cherry Bark Vanilla Bitters
  • 2 dashes Bittercube Orange Bitters
  • Add brandy, syrup, and bitters to a mixing glass. Add ice, and stir for 30-45 seconds. Strain into an Old Fashioned glass with one large ice cube. Twist an orange peel over the drink and drop it in for garnish.

    *Cinnamon Syrup*

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 4 cinnamon sticks, broken into large pieces
  • Bring all ingredients to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat to medium-low and let simmer for 10 minutes until sugar has dissolved, stirring frequently. Remove from heat and let cool. Discard cinnamon sticks, strain into a clean glass jar, and cover. Store refrigerated for up to 3 weeks.
