When our barrels are retired, we do all we can do put them to good use. Whole barrels are used around the winery and distillery grounds in many ways. Our winery and distillery craftsmen also use wood from the barrels to make custom furniture, serving trays, and other unique items that can be purchased in our winery and distillery stores.
After re-purposing the wood, all that’s left are the metal hoops…and now, a new way for us to put the barrels to good use, for a good cause.
With a large supply of sturdy metal and a strong commitment to sustainability and community, we’re carefully bending the barrel hoops into heart shapes, adding lights, and making them available for $50…with all of the proceeds going to the UW Carbone Cancer Center, to support cancer research and treatment. It’s a cause that’s near and dear to our hearts.
“Cancer is something that has touched us all,” said winemaker Philippe. “Here at Wollersheim, we’ve felt it with the loss of our founder, Bob, our uncle and mentor, Jean, our dear friend Janelle, and many others who’ve touched our lives in so many ways. The heart is symbolic for all of us, and we hang these hearts in their honor.”
The barrel hoop hearts are available at the winery and distillery stores, in a variety of colors. Stop by and pick out your favorite today.
